Description

The Female Mallard Duck Walking Stick is distinctive with mottled brown pyography markings and an orangey-brown bill.  The head is hand-carved from solid lime,  with a locally sourced hazel stick, complete with ferrule. The joint between the stick and the head is reinforced with a steel 8mm rod for extra strength.

It is hand-painted, sealed and waxed for protection. Total length 122cm.

Our stunning range of walking sticks is entirely hand- made by woodcarver Jane, from Derbyshire, where she lives with her husband and 11-year-old son, William. The daughter of a renowned woodcarver, while she was growing up she spent many hours with him in his shed watching him work.  During the Covid 19 lockdown, Jane gave up her auditor role to homeschool her son. She needed to find a job she could do from home and had always been interested in arts and crafts, so she decided to give wood carving a go for herself, and that’s where her story began! She has benefitted hugely from her dad’s knowledge and experience, he is both her inspiration and mentor. She now spends most of her time doing what she loves, whittling away in her shed – just like her dad!

After care:

• To avoid splitting keep away from  direct sunlight or heat from radiators,  fires etc
• Wax the stick occasionally with bees wax
• DO NOT wax the head
